Following the myth’s footsteps: sailing along the Aeneas Route with the cruise of values

The first sailing trip of the Aeneas Route Association took place in Campania in September 2021 with the collaboration of the Italian Naval League, following the trojan hero steps.

t was a beautiful trip around the places crossed by the Trojan exile narrated by Virgil, from Scario through Palinuro, Acciaroli, Sorrento, Bacoli, and Pozzuoli, where the first Enea’s Rotta sport regatta took place.
The whole of Campania represents a symbolic crossroads of Aeneas’ adventure, with the Cilento coast preserving the memory of Palinuro, the mythical helmsman of Aeneas.

The Cruise of Values, a replica of the Aeneas journey, aims to promote, especially among the younger generations, the values of encounter, dialogue, mixing, and founding values of the Mediterranean and European culture and identity.
This year, the Aneas Route Association is organizing a new sailing edition, open to lovers of the sea and the myths of the Ancient Mediterranean.

The 2022 edition, organized with the Vela Insieme, an association committed to the themes of social inclusion and encounter, and with Slow Food, feeding the sailors with fresh food and typical zero-kilometer products.

We set off in Trapani, which preserves the memory of Anchises, on August the 6th, skirting Sicily and the Strait of Messina to arrive in Reggio Calabria on the 13th. We sail through Cilento (home of the Mediterranean diet and UNESCO heritage), stopping in Agropoli on the 20th, along the Amalfi coast, passing through Capri and Sorrento, to stop at the Campi Flegrei and visit Cuma. Then, on the 27th, we reach Gaeta, a splendid seafaring city that takes the name of the nurse of Aeneas.

To join and participate in the initiative by getting on board for one or more weeks, you can write to the Association (info@rottadienea.it) or the skipper Vittorio – vittorioalessio@yahoo.com -, whose a member of the Aeneas Route Association.

Next year, the third edition will take place on new sections of the Route of Aeneas between Greece, Turkey, Albania, Tunisia, and Italy.
We aim to provide the Aeneas Route friends with a refreshing and engaging journey, crossing through the new itinerary certified by the Council of Europe, between sea, culture, and nature.

After the new bloody trojan wars that still afflict our hearts and claim innocent victims, our hopes stand for Aeneas and his values, looking forward to a peaceful Mediterranean and Bosphorus area.
