Restoring the cultural tourism in Mykonos

“To restore cultural tourism in one of the stops of Aeneas’ journey from Troy to the Lazio coast”.
On 21 April, the Mayor of the Municipality of Mykonos Konstantinos Koukas and the President of the Aeneas Route Association Giovanni Cafiero met at the town hall to discuss this common goal.

The meeting represented the opportunity to talk about tourism recovery after the pandemic, cultural tourism, and the importance of the site of Delos for the Route of Aeneas, the new Cultural Route of the Council of Europe.

With its archaeological and landscape beauties, Delos is one of the symbolic places of Aeneas’s Route. From the Archaic period to the Roman period, Apollo’s sacred island was a melting pot of different cultures. Then, after alternating historical events, Delos reached its maximum splendor.

The meeting was also the occasion to discuss the organization of an Aeneas Route Summit. This new initiative will take place in the spring of 2023th, with the collaboration of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades, directed by Prof. Demetrios Athanasoulis, who expressed his full support for the initiative in a letter.
