aenea’s route, an extraordinary journey in the footsteps of the mythical hero, between history, legends, nature and landscapes.

Aeneas’ journey, as narrated in Virgil’s Aeneid, unfolds from east to west through the Mediterranean Sea. After fleeing from a burning Troy, Aeneas sets sail from Antandrus with a small group of companions. The destination, on the shores of Latium, will be reached after long years of wanderings. There, Aeneas will establish the city of Lavinium, where he’ll be revered as the Pater. Aeneas’ son, Ascanius, will establish the famous Alba Longa on the Alban Hills and from his lineage will come Rumulus, the legendary founder and first king of Rome according to the myth.

Aeneas’ travel stopovers

Reading the Aeneid means discovering the mythical roots of our history conceived in the heart of Mediterranean Sea, cradle of civilization and meeting place of cultures, almost the amniotic fluid of our Europe. The Aeneas’ Route, through an itinerary made of centuries and many stopovers in the Mediterranean, is a physical route crossing the places touched by the Trojan hero fleeing from his burning city in search of a new beginning in an unknown land. On the other hand, It is also an ideal journey because it embodies the history of mankind, always ready to travel, by choice or necessity, in order to seek a homeland where peace and prosperity reign together with affection and knowledge. It is a cultural route, because through archaeology, nature and literature, it narrates a compelling story in which we can all recognise ourselves. The journey touches five different countries, twenty-one different places, including 7 UNESCO sites, but also many other extraordinary and fascinating places, all to be discovered.

Tra mito e luoghi straordinari

Enea rappresenta l'anelito universale alla pace e alla fratellanza in un mondo sempre in bilico nella storia dei popoli e delle singole persone tra guerre e tragedie individuali.
