The Certification Ceremony of Aeneas Route was held in Edremit (Türkiye) on 29 June 2022. The Ceremony, joined by Stefano Dominioni, Executive Secretary of EPA and Director of the Institute of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, was organised by Edremit Municipality, founder member of Aeneas Route Association and great developer of the cultural route.
The event was attended by all the Turkish members of the Aeneas Route Network which received the Certification from Mr. Stefano Dominioni. Among the Turkish partners of the route a special mentions goes to the Governorate of Balıkesir, the Metropolitan City of Balıkesir, the Municipality of Çanakkale, the Regional Directorate of Balıkesir for Culture and Tourism, the University of Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart, the University of Balıkesir, the Agency for the Development of the South Marmara Region, the Directorate of the Museum of Troy, the Directorate of Excavation of the City of Troy (UNESCO), the Chamber of Regional Touristic Guides of Çanakkale. The Director of the Colosseum Archaeological Park attended the ceremony as well.
The Certification Ceremony was held during the closing meeting of the Project “On the Steps of Aeneas” led by Aeneas Route Association, Edremit Municipality and Sapienza University and which was aimed to develop the digital dimension of our cultural route. In the frame of this call, the touristic and educational digital platform of Aeneas Route, A.R.I.S.T.E., was developed and the archaeological areas of Lavinium (Italy) and Antandros (Türkiye) were enriched with virtual tours.
An academic publication with articles from Turkish and Italian archaeologists regarding the connections between the Troas and Latium regions, was presented during the meeting. With this occasion, Aeneas Route would like to thank the support and the great job of all the network members, especially the consortium of actors and institutions operating in Turkey, the starting point of the Aeneas’ journey
